The most common question I get asked when I give presentation on social media for schools is how do you keep track of students that can’t have their picture taken?
It can get complicated for your district photographer if there is not a system in place that protects students who have not give consent to be on social media. How do you keep your students safe?
Keep Track of Students That Can’t Have Their Picture Taken
Most schools have a database for their administrators and teachers to protect against taking a picture or record a video of students who are not allowed to have their image shown. However, most visitors and school communication teams do not have easy access to this database.
So how do you keep from your photographers and videographers from not making a mistake by capturing an image of a student who is on this list? Our school district has come up with an easy solution to avoid this mistake. We have created simple photo-safe door sign for our classroom teachers. You will have your chance to download these signs for free later in the post.
In CFBISD, we have started to use a sign on classroom doors that alert photographers that their are children in the class that have not given consent for their photo to be taken. The sign is hung or taped on their door. We use the Instagram symbol with the number of students that can’t have their photo taken in the center of the logo. If there are no students who have opted out, we have a star instead of a number.
Free Downloadable Door Signs
I have created a PDF of the door signs that you can download for free. Click the link below to access the free door signs.

Just laminate, and then cut out to hang on your door. Indicate how many students in your classroom that can’t have their picture taken by using the different numbered sign.
If you have any questions about the signs, feel free to leave them in the comment section below.
